Bally 12 years Pyramide
J. Bally
About the product
Bally 12yo is a classic, and an instant eye-catcher in any bar cabinet. The pyramid-shaped bottle stands out among the classic offerings, and fortunately the contents are also particularly worthwhile. This rhum agircole based on pure sugarcane juice is aged for at least 12 years in oak barrels before being bottled at an alcohol strength of 45%.
The colour immediately betrays that this is no young rum: dark mahogany is a good way to describe this hue. The nose is what you expect from a 12-year aged rhum Agricole: intense, spicy (nutmeg and cinnamon) and memorable. On the palate, you get more complexity. Dark wood leads the main tone, with a pleasant kick of brown sugar and black pepper. Dark flavours mostly, but nicely balanced, even in the finish that continues for a long time.
A delicious rum that every lover should definitely have tasted once!
About the brand
J. Bally was founded in 1917 by Jacques Bally, on the French island of Martinique. It is one of the oldest distilleries in Martinique and is famous for its unique, pyramid-shaped bottle. They specialise mainly in aged rhum agricole.
The story begins when Jacques Bally bought a small sugar refinery. He transformed it into a distillery. His engineering background came in handy, and he designed his own unique column still and installed a steam engine to power everything. From 1924, he started focusing on rum maturation and Bally gained great fame in the 1950s and 1960s as one of the best rhum agricoles in the world. Jacques Bally also developed the famous pyramid-shaped bottle himself in the 1930s, in collaboration with Saint-Gobain.
Production moved to the Saint James site in 1976, and since then everything is done at the Distillerie du Simon, but still following Bally's own original principles and techniques.
