About the product

Planteray's Signature blends series celebrates the terroirs of rum with highly recognisable bottles wrapped in raffia. The series features bottlings from traditional rum countries like Barbados, Jamaica, Guatemala, Mauritius and Belize, as well as less common countries like Fiji. Each of these rums first matured locally in warm, tropical conditions and received a second maturation in France in ex-cognac casks from Maison Ferrand.

This Isle of Fiji is a rum with a unique flavour profile. The island of Fiji evokes an image of rich lagoons and tropical beauty anyway, and this rum reflects that in its flavour. It is made using traditional techniques from local sugarcane. This gets its individuality from the super-pure water and volcanic soil. It is cut by hand and ground into molasses locally, in the town of Lautoka. It makes for a powerful and smoky rum.

The nose immediately offers you stewed pear, crème brulée and candied ginger. A hint of smoke is present in the background. On the palate, you get toasted coconut and plantain, followed by dried fruit and the rkuiden that oak barrel ageing adds. The finish is long with caramel, peach and ginger.

About the brand

Planteray Rums has set out to introduce the world to rums from everywhere. Each place where rums are made has its specific terroir, its specific way of making rums and therefore its own style and flavour profile. This has been slowly developed through centuries of tradition and by local communities. These are the stories Planteray wants to tell with the rums they bottle.

Planteray's story started more than 25 years ago. Alexandre Gabriel started the company then and is still the master blender. He travels the world in search of rums worth discovering, makes local connections and ensures they are bottled in a sustainable way and distributed around the world. Planteray's approach was revolutionary at the outset and yet rooted in tradition: their technique of ‘double maturation’ gives the rums bottled by Planteray a unique character. This is how it was done long ago - rums were transported in their original maturation barrels (where they had sat for several years in tropical climates) and matured further in the fresher continental climate of Europe. At Planteray, they have the advantage of being able to use exquisite cognac barrels from parent house Maison Ferrand. This technique was perfected by Planteray and has since been adopted back by many other modern bottlers.

Planteray's range is particularly wide: rums from all corners of our globe, from young to very old, in all styles and for every budget. Definitely worth browsing through as a rum lover!
